Expert on Faculty-Staff Relations Coming to Lehigh

    Dr. Susan Christy, author of the book Working Effectively With Faculty: A Guidebook for Higher Education Staff and Managers, is coming to Lehigh for two full days of workshops.

    Dr. Christy has consulted with over 20,000 university and college administrators, managers, staff and faculty in over 200 departments in many academic institutions over the last 20 years.

Schedule of Events:

July 13

Staff-Faculty Partnerships: Working with faculty members requires special insights, approaches and creativity. It helps to understand the structure and culture of academic institutions, faculty work-styles and priorities, and how to get things done on campus. This interactive training offers strategies and best practices for working with faculty in a variety of university settings.

Two sessions will be offered, 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Participants will receive a copy of Dr. Christy’s book.

July 14

Customer Service Strategies in an Academic Environment: Can working with difficult customers – students, faculty members, co-workers – challenge your skills and patience?  Customer Service may not be everyday language at Lehigh BUT we do have customers! Participants learn to focus on customers’ needs, build lasting relationships, and communicate to solve problems and get things done on campus.

One session from 8:30 - 11:30 a.m.

Managing in an Academic Environment: Skills for Managers and Supervisors: You, as manager or supervisor in a research university, have special challenges…and opportunities. This half-day workshop focuses on academic-specific perspectives and skills for you to guide and support staff to understand academia, work effectively with faculty, and build an effective organization.

One session from 1:30 - 4:30 p.m.
