Moving Forward: The New Lehigh University Retirement Plan

With the turn of the calendar page, Lehigh’s new retirement plan has taken effect.

We have updated the Human Resources website to reflect the new policies and procedures. There are now two sets of information about the plan – one for benefits eligible employees hired prior to January 1, 2014 and one for those hired on January 1, 2014 and after.

More than 600 staff and faculty attended group information or one-on-one counseling sessions with TIAA-CREF. If you have made changes and updates to your account, such as adding a voluntary contribution or moving your retirement savings into new funds, you should have received confirming communications from TIAA-CREF. Employees who set up a voluntary contribution will also receive a confirming letter from Human Resources in the next several weeks.

We know not all of you have had a chance to take action yet. Here’s a checklist of items that you are highly encouraged to accomplish to make the most of the new plan:

Maximize The Match!
Remember that Lehigh will match 50 cents on each dollar you contribute to your retirement plan up to the limits described on our website. To start or modify your voluntary contribution, go to TIAA-CREF and log in. Select Manage My Portfolio and follow the links to either start or revise voluntary contributions.

Update Your Beneficiaries
Your beneficiary designation may have changed during the updates. To review your current designation, visit TIAA-CREF. Select Log In and choose I Want To Update My Beneficiaries.

Get Help With Your Investments
Are you saving enough? How should you invest? How do you meet your retirement income needs? Get personalized retirement plan advice on the plan’s investment options from a TIAA-CREF Financial Consultant. This service is available as part of your retirement plan at no additional cost to you.

One-on-One Counseling Session: To schedule your session, call TIAA-CREF at 800 732-8353, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. (ET) or visit TIAA-CREF's registration webpage.

Other Inquiries: You can call TIAA-CREF’s main customer service line – 800 842-2252, Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.  or Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (ET) - for inquiries about your account.
