News from ERAC

Print Article

By Seth Goren, Chair

We hope you all are doing well and enjoying the cooler weather as we head more fully into autumn. The Employee Relations Advisory Council (ERAC) has spent the past month focusing on a number of different matters, from how we connect with our local community to how we engage with each other.

First, ERAC is looking forward to facilitating and increasing staff participation in the Adopt A Family program, which is organized by David Joseph and Roseann Corsi.  Under this program, offices and departments “adopt” a family and provide that family with needed items from their wish lists to celebrate the holiday season.  The “adopters” then meet with their families, this year on December 5, and give them their gifts in person.  Working through Adopt A Family, Lehigh faculty, staff and students are able to bring joy to dozens of families each December.

To be most helpful for the program and for the families we serve, ERAC is encouraging faculty and staff to provide financial donations.  The monies collected will be used to purchase food gift cards for the families.  If you, either individually or as part of your department, are interested in participating, please contact Brenda Bachman at for more information.

In addition to Adopt A Family, ERAC continues to move forward with REACH: Resources to Engage, Accomplish, Connect & Help which aims to foster professional relationships and networks among faculty and staff.  There are some open spaces remaining in the program, and REACH registration for the October cohort is available on the ERAC website.

ERAC’s brown bag lunch series provides information relevant to staff about important community issues and professional development.  On October 24, we’re hosting a discussion of anticipated changes to our short-term disability plan. Stay tuned to the Daily Announcements for more information on this event.  These changes are expected to enhance equity and balance between exempt and non-exempt staff in the event of a short-term disability absence from work. More details about the proposed policy revision can be read here.

For November, our brown bag topic will be a Library and Technology Services-led technology review focusing on how to get the most out of Course Site, iPads and iPhones.  If you have specific topics you’d like to see addressed and discussed at a brown bag lunch, please email Denise Stangl at

As we look further into October and beyond, we’re also anticipating news regarding action on the Benefits Allocation Review Team recommendations.  Until then, have a wonderful autumn.
