Wellness In The Works

Fall HealthScan Registration Opens

Many of our hundreds of HealthSCAN regulars have been attending the program consistently for years. As soon as registration opens, they’re on it. The forms start arriving in the HR office almost immediately.

Why do so many faculty and staff jump at the chance to fast for 12 hours and have someone poke them with a needle? Is it the sight of Mary Jo McNulty’s smiling face at check-in? The tasty continental breakfast? A chance to admire the lobby of Iacocca Hall?

Maybe. But more likely, our HealthSCAN faithful know that the program is a quick, convenient, and free/low cost way to get an annual look at their overall wellness. They also know that finding a health problem in its earliest stages is a very good thing.

So, if you’ve never signed up for HealthSCAN, or it’s been a while, now is a great time to take advantage of this faculty and staff benefit.

More About HealthScan

HealthSCAN is a personal, preventive health screening that may determine if you have current or potential health problems.

Lehigh employees are eligible for one free screening per year as part of their benefits program. Retirees as well as employee spouses/partners can also participate in the screening at full cost (currently $50).

Tests include checks for:

  • Diabetes
  • Heart Disease
  • Liver Disease
  • Kidney Disease

A Complete Blood Count (CBC) as well as HDL (good) and LDL (bad) cholesterol levels are also done. Prostate and thyroid screenings are also available for an additional $10 each.

Test results are strictly confidential. Only you will receive your results. The program, conducted by Quest Diagnostics, is offered twice a year on campus, usually October and April. This year’s fall HealthSCAN will take place October 10, 11, and 12.

Download the registration form here. Complete the form, including your preferred test times, and return it to Mary Jo McNulty in Human Resources. If you have questions, contact Mary Jo at or extension 83894.
