Medco Transitioning To Express Scripts Name

Print Article

Lehigh’s prescription drug plan provider, Medco, merged with Express Scripts on April 2, 2012. The combined companies now serve more than 100 million customers, including all Lehigh employees and dependents who are covered by one of our four medical insurance plans.

On September 1, 2012, the merged company will begin transitioning to the Express Scripts name for all of its operations.

This change will not impact how you order prescriptions or contact the Medco Pharmacy.  But it does mean that you will begin seeing the Express Scripts name when receiving material from the merged company.

Here is a summary of what the name change means for you as a consumer.

What Will Change On September 1

The Express Scripts name and brand will appear on most member communications starting September 1, including the consumer website.  All references to the Medco name/logo will change to Express Scripts, however, the web address will remain the same.

  • Communication pieces such as Explanation of Benefits (EOBs), or those encouraging the use of preferred medications such as generics, will reference Express Scripts.

  • Customer service representative greetings will include this messaging:  Medco is now a part of the Express Scripts family of pharmacies.

  • Literature packets and communications associated with prescriptions ordered through the mail will include information about the name change. There may be times when members will still see references to Medco as well as Express Scripts until the full transition is complete.

What Remains The Same

The name change will not affect how you order prescriptions or contact the Medco Pharmacy.

Certain names will not change on September 1 but will change over time. These include:

  • References to the Accredo Specialty Pharmacy
  • References to the Medco Pharmacy.

Current Medco cardholders will NOT receive new ID cards from Express Scripts. Members can continue to refill their prescriptions by using their current ID card, refill order forms, Medco’s website, or the toll-free member services telephone number on their ID card.
